Marty began his business career in 1980 by starting Forklift Exchange, specializing in buying, selling and renting material handling equipment. Today, Forklift Exchange remains a leader in the wholesale market. In 1994, he successfully acquired the rights to build cushion-tire forklifts from Silent Hoist and Crane located in Brooklyn, New York. He then moved the business back to Illinois and transformed Silent Hoist and Crane into Hoist Liftruck Mfg. Inc., with annual sales exceeding $40 million. He successfully opened markets in the automotive steel and aluminum sectors, as well as became the preferred vendor for large capacity cushion-tire forklifts with many of these customers. Marty truly loves what he does and is a hands-on owner, spending time in all aspects of his business. He led the team that redesigned the new Lazer, Titan, FKS, P-Series and Neptune liftrucks. He also moved all manufactured parts back to Hoist's own Bedford Park, Illinois facility and incorporated new CNC machining centers and robotic welding units. He also led the Hoist team in a multi-million dollar investment, establishing full automation of its manufacturing and welding departments. Hoist's in-house parts manufacturing has greatly improved the quality of its liftrucks and on-time delivery.
