Maersk has purchased a 36,000-pound P-Series (P360) pneumatic forklift from Hoist Liftruck for its Terminal Island, California facility. In the Northwest, Jones Stevedoring purchased two (2) 80,000-pound P-Series (P800) pneumatic forklifts for its Portland location.

Maersk’s P360 will be built on a 115-inch wheelbase with a 36-inch load center and feature: Cummins 6.7L turbocharged diesel engine; Dana 32,000 automatic transmission; AxleTech heavy-duty drive axle; wet-disc brakes; fully-enclosed cab with air-ride seat; electronic hydraulic controls; easy-access service points; and RemoteTech® vehicle diagnostics system.

The P800s for Jones Stevedoring will be the largest Hoist pneumatic forklifts to date with a 170-inch wheelbase and 48-inch load center. The forklifts will have the same features as the Maersk P360, but will be powered by a Cummins QSM11 diesel engine and have a removable counterweight.

All three P-Series forklifts will feature Tier-3 compliant engines to meet the new emission standards in the West Coast. “In addition to providing a rugged and durable product for this industry, we also want to be able to provide the industry with the most cleanest-running material handling vehicles possible,” says Marty Flaska, owner of Hoist Liftruck.

Ceres Marine Terminals in Baltimore recently took delivery of Hoist Liftruck’s first P-Series Ro-Ro, a 52,000- pound capacity forklift with double removable counterweights. Earlier this year, Federal Marine Terminals took delivery of two (2) Hoist P360s for its Milwaukee facility.

The entrance into the port, intermodal and breakbulk industries isn’t a new venture for Hoist Liftruck. The company was formed from the acquisition of Brooklyn, New York-based Silent Hoist & Crane, which was one of the pioneers of material handling equipment for American ports more than 80 years ago. Silent Hoist & Crane heavy-duty forklifts and container handlers could be seen at all the ports along the east coast, and paved the way for other manufacturers and innovative equipment.

Hoist Liftruck is re-entering the market with a new generation of equipment with the pneumatic P-Series lift truck (22,000 lbs. – 100,000 lbs.), the new P-Series Ro-Ro lift truck and the new empty container handlers, which will be available Fall 2007. Hoist Liftruck’s cushion-tire line of lift trucks – internal combustion Titan and FKS series and electric Lazer Series – are also ideal for various indoors applications.
