On June 11, forklift manufacturers highlighted the safe use of forklifts, the importance of operator training and the priority that owners and operators should place on daily equipment checks. Hoist Material Handling spearheaded a weeklong social campaign to go through the ways that we, as a company, keep our own facilities safe while we operate forklifts to keep business running, but also, as a guide for customers on tips and training tactics they can implement in their own operations.

One such thing that we require from our own operators is forklift operation training, even if they were certified by a previous employer. Our Safety Manager works with each associate to ensure they are familiar not only with forklift operations, but with our own facility and business operations. Other topics included the importance of daily pre-start checklists, which our Smart Screen Technology onboard diagnostic software can help operators do things like check oil levels and monitor forklift activity.

Although it is only seen as an official one-day holiday, forklift safety should be practiced and celebrated every day. Whether your facility has one forklift or a few dozen forklifts keeping operations running, improper use of the forklifts lead to bad outcomes. It is the responsibility not only of the forklift operator, but everyone who works or walks in the vicinity to be mindful as well.
